Disney and Lucasfilm have released a trailer for Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord.
The animated series, which serves as a spin-off from Star Wars: The Clone Wars (2008-2020), centres on the former Sith Lord as he seeks to recover his power following his escape from Imperial custody.
The official synopsis reads “This pulpy adventure finds Maul plotting to rebuild his criminal syndicate on a planet untouched by the Empire. There, he crosses paths with a disillusioned young Jedi Padawan who could be the apprentice he is seeking to aid him in his relentless pursuit for revenge.”
The series will debut with two episodes in April, with two episodes being released weekly up until Star Wars Day on 4th May 2026.
Sam Witwer voices Maul, having also done so in The Clone Wars, Star Wars Rebels (2014-2018) and Solo: A Star Wars Story (2018). Witwer also voiced Starkiller in the video game Star Wars: The Force Unleashed (2008) and its sequel.
Other cast members include Gideon Adlon, Wagner Moura, and Steve Blum. Adlon has previously starred in Blockers (2018), Pacific Rim: The Black (2021-2022) and Terminator Zero (2024).
Moura recently won a Golden Globe for his performance in the Oscar-nominated drama The Secret Agent (2025). Blum’s previous credits, meanwhile, include Cowboy Bebop (1998) and The Legend of Korra (2012-2014).
Maul – Shadow Lord is created by Dave Filoni, who was recently announced as Lucasfilm’s new President and Chief Creative Officer.
Maul first appeared as Darth Sidious’ mysterious apprentice in Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace (1999), where he was played by Ray Park and Peter Serafinowicz. Maul has also featured in a variety of video games, novels, and comic book series, such as Darth Maul: Son of Dathomir (2014).
Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord premieres on Disney+ on 6th April 2026.
