Warner Bros. has released the first official trailer for their upcoming horror movie, The Mummy.
From writer and director Lee Cronin, the film promises to be an audacious and twisted retelling of the classic monster. The Irish filmmaker previously helmed Evil Dead Rise (2023), and The Hole in the Ground (2019).
The film’s official synopsis reads: “The young daughter of a journalist disappears into the desert without a trace—eight years later, the broken family is shocked when she is returned to them, as what should be a joyful reunion turns into a living nightmare.”
Speaking in a recent interview with IGN, Cronin teased that this will be a “very different kind of Mummy movie.” He also added that the film is “an insane mashup – almost one part Poltergeist (1982) and one part Seven (1995), but put through my lens and the way that I like to entertain people.”
The film stars Jack Reynor (Midsommar), Laia Costa (The Wheel of Time), Natalie Grace (1923), Veronica Falcón (Ozark), and May Calamawy (Moon Knight),
The Mummy franchise dates back to 1932, where the character was first portrayed on screen by Boris Karloff. The character has since become an icon of cinema, featuring in multiple films over several decades.
This latest outing marks the characters first big screen outing since 2017, when Universal attempted to relaunch the franchise with a Tom Cruise-lead movie. However, the film became a critical and commercial failure and halted plans for a wider, interconnected “Dark Universe.”
Cronin’s terrifying new take on the character won’t be the only upcoming Mummy project as Brendan Fraiser and Rachel Weisz are set to return as Rick and Evelyn O’ Connell in a Radio Silence headed Mummy sequel.
Lee Cronin’s The Mummy will release in cinemas on April 17th, 2026.
