DC Studios has released the first official trailer for Supergirl.
The film marks the second big-screen entry into James Gunn’s newly rebooted DC Universe.
Per the film’s official synopsis, “When an unexpected and ruthless adversary strikes too close to home, Kara Zor-El, aka Supergirl, reluctantly joins forces with an unlikely companion on an epic, interstellar journey of vengeance and justice.”
Milly Alcock stars in the dual role of Supergirl/Kara Zor-El. The character previously made a brief cameo in James Gunn’s Superman (2025), but will take centre stage this time around. Alcock previously played the role of a young Rhaenyra Targaryen in the hit HBO series, House of the Dragon.
The film also co-stars Matthias Schoenaerts as Krem of the Yellow Hills, Eve Ridley as Ruthye Marye Knoll, David Krumholtz as Zor-El, Emily Beecham as Alura In-Ze, and Jason Momoa as Lobo.
Australian filmmaker Craig Gillespie directs from a script written by Ana Nogueira. Gillespie is best known for helming the feature films I, Tonya (2017) and Fright Night (2011). Nogueira based the script on Tom King’s 2022 comic book series Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.
DC head of studio James Gunn has previously spoken more about the film and claimed that Milly Alcock “might be the best bit of casting I’ve ever done in my life.” He also spoke more about how Supergirl differs from Superman, adding that the character is “haunted.”
A sentiment that is shared is by Alcock, who claims that the character is “an unapologetic mess.” Speaking in a previous interview with Den of Geek, she also added, “She doesn’t want to be a hero, and I really admire that about her. I think Clark puts on a mask in his everyday life, and Kara won’t submit to that. I find that really admirable.”
Supergirl will be released in cinemas on June 26, 2026.
