Sky has acquired the rights for the upcoming Friday the 13th prequel series, Crystal Lake.
The deal covers both the UK and Ireland and will see the show air exclusively on Sky platforms and on the streaming service NOW.
Set to release sometime in 2026, the series is described as an expanded prequel to the original 1980 slasher film. It will star Linda Cardellini as Pamela Voorhees and Callum Vinson as a young Jason Voorhees.
The series will also co-star William Catlett, Devin Kessler, Cameron Scoggins, and Gwendolyn Sundstrom. Nick Cordileone, Joy Suprano, Danielle Kotch and Phoenix Parnevik complete the main cast.
The series is expected to follow the life of Pamela Voorhees following the tragic loss of her son. The show was previously commissioned in 2022.
Katie Keenan, Group Director of Acquisitions for Sky UK and Europe, said “We are so excited to bring Crystal Lake, the back storyline to the iconic Friday the 13th franchise. Snapping up this show demonstrates our commitment to bringing our customers the best US drama series from one of the hottest US studios. We are thrilled to be in partnership with A24 and Peacock on this project.”
Crystal Lake will be the first official project from the Friday the 13th franchise in over fifteen years. The latest entry dates back to the 2009 reboot, which was directed by Marcus Nispel.
The series is set to run alongside the recently announced Jason Universe. Robbie Barsamian, Vice-President of Horror, Inc, previously told IGN that “We're focused on honoring the legacy while elevating the fan experience and appealing to today's horror audiences as we develop new ways to watch, interact and engage with the Jason Universe.”
The new venture recently released a brand new look at Jason Voorhees in the YouTube short film, Sweet Revenge.
