It's that time of year again: the days are getting shorter, the streets are getting colder – but the movies aren't going anywhere. Rainy autumn days call for getting cosy with a new film, and whether you're taking a trip to the cinema or escaping to another world from the comfort of your sofa, this weekend brings some brilliant new releases.
Good Fortune
In this feature directorial debut from Aziz Ansari, Keanu Reeves is a modern-day Angel Gabriel who is well-intentioned but hilariously clumsy. Taking inspiration from the Christmas classic It's a Wonderful Life, Ansari's Good Fortune is a thought-provoking story of love, gratitude, and redemption.
Black Phone 2
The sequel to the 2021 horror smash The Black Phone will enthral thriller fans. Four years after the original, Finn (Mason Thames) is now 17 and struggling to cope with life after captivity. The Blake family seemingly can't catch a break, as this instalment sees sister Gwen (Madeleine McGraw) terrorised by the horrifying telephone.
Roofman
Based on the true story of former United States Army Reserve officer Jeffrey Manchester, Roofman tells how the convicted thief meticulously planned and observed his surroundings before robbing 45 McDonald's restaurants across the United States. Channing Tatum plays the ex-military man who gained his nickname due to the way he drilled through the ceilings of his target locations.
The Twits
More than four decades after Roald Dahl published the classic children's story The Twits, the book has finally received the big-screen treatment. This musical comedy, now streaming on Netflix, is loosely based on the novel and follows the grumpy, spiteful Twits as they run a filthy and dangerous theme park called Twitlandia. As they rise to power and declare war on local orphans, can a group of plucky heroes save the day?
