A poster for Christopher Nolan's new feature, The Odyssey, has been released.
The poster also confirmed the film's release date of July next year. EMPIRE also reports that a minute-long teaser trailer for The Odyssey is being screened in cinemas before screenings of recent releases such as Jurassic World Rebirth. The trailer is not currently available online.
The film is adapted from the epic poem of the same name by the Ancient Greek poet, Homer. The poem follows the King of Ithaca, Odysseus, as he returns home after the ten-year-long Trojan War. Beyond that, exact plot details are currently unknown.
Confirmed cast details include Matt Damon, who will portray the titular character. This is the second time Damon has worked with Nolan, having also starred in Oppenheimer (2023). Tom Holland also stars in what is his first collaboration with Nolan. While his role is unconfirmed, he will reportedly play Odysseus' son, Telemachus.
The ensemble cast also includes Charlize Theron, Anne Hathaway, and Robert Pattinson. Zendaya, Lupita Nyong'o, Jon Bernthal and Mia Goth also feature.
Hathaway worked with Nolan previously on Interstellar (2014), while The Odyssey also marks Pattinson's second film with the director after Tenet (2020).
Nolan is serving as both director and writer, and will co-produce alongside his wife and long-term collaborator Emma Thomas. Furthermore, Hoyte van Hoytema also reunites with Nolan as cinematographer, having previously worked on Oppenheimer, Tenet, and Dunkirk (2017) among other titles. Variety reports that The Odyssey is the first blockbuster filmed entirely using IMAX film cameras.
With a reported budget of $250 million, The Odyssey will be the most expensive film of Nolan's career. The film is currently in production, with filming taking place in Scotland, Morocco, Greece, Sicily, Iceland, and Ireland.
The Odyssey will be released in UK cinemas on 17 July, 2026.
