HBO Max has released the official trailer for the upcoming second season of Peacemaker.
The trailer was released at San Diego Comic Con, where DC studio head James Gunn joined John Cena on stage.
Per the logline, the new season follows Christopher “Chris” Smith, aka Peacemaker, the vigilante Super Hero, as he struggles to reconcile his past with his newfound sense of purpose.
“I really like TV shows where the characters don't just return every season and they're the same exact characters. I want to see growth. I want to see change and sometimes regression,” said Gunn about Peacemaker. “And Peacemaker is a different guy this year. He's dealing with the demons he uncovered from the first season and trying to deal with them, and the world is not accepting him the way he is. They aren't accepting him as a hero.”
Peacemaker Season 2 will serve as part of the “soft reboot” of the DC Universe, as confirmed by Gunn, who said the new season will take place one month after the events of Superman (2025).
John Cena will return to the titular role. Other returning cast members include Danielle Brooks, Freddie Stroma, Jennifer Holland, and Steve Agee.
Frank Grillo, Sol Rodríguez, David Denman, Brey Noelle, and Tim Meadows round off the main cast.
Gunn wrote all eight episodes of Peacemaker and directed three, including the first episode.
Peacemaker is based on the DC comics character of the same name. Season 1 of the show debuted in 2022 and received strong reviews from both fans and critics. The finale broke the record for the highest single-day viewership of an HBO Max original episode.
Peacemaker Season 2 will premiere on August 21st, 2025.
