Netflix has released the first six minutes of the second season of Wednesday.
Revealed during the streaming service's Tudum event, the footage shows Wednesday Addams tied up in the lair of a serial killer.
Jenna Ortega returns to play the titular character. Ortega previously teased in an interview with Harper's Bazaar that season two is “bigger, bolder, gorier, and a bit darker […] it's sillier in the best way possible.”
This sentiment is shared by series co-showrunners and executive producers Alfred Gough and Miles Millar. During the event, Gough and Millar said “this season, Wednesday's journey is darker and more complex as she navigates family, friends, new mysteries, and old adversaries, propelling her headlong into another year at Nevermore.”
Also returning for the new season are Emma Myers as Enid, Luis Guzman as Gomez Addams, and Catherine Zeta Jones as Morticia Addams. Steve Buscemi, Billie Piper, Hunter Doohan, and Thandiwe Newton will also feature in the new season.
Additionally, Grammy and Golden Globe winner Lady Gaga will guest star in part two of the upcoming season. Gaga will play the mysterious and enigmatic Rosaline Rotwood, a legendary Nevermore teacher who crosses paths with Wednesday.
Academy Award winner Tim Burton will also return to direct four of the season's eight episodes. Paco Cabezas and Angela Robinson will each direct two episodes.
Season one of Wednesday season one debuted in November 2022. Within three weeks of its release, it became Netflix's second-most watched English-language series, behind only season four of Stranger Things. It has since received a Golden Globe nomination for Best Television Series, while Jenna Ortega was also nominated for Best Actress in a Television Series Musical or Comedy.
Part one of Wednesday season two will be released on Netflix on 6 August. Part two will be released on 3 September.
