Warner Bros. has released a teaser trailer for The Conjuring: Last Rites.

The ninth entry of the hit horror franchise, which will reportedly be the ending of the universe's “phase one”, will see Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga reprise their lead roles as real-life paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren for one last case. This time around, the film will tackle the infamous Smurl family haunting.

The Warrens' investigation into supernatural events among the Smurl family came in response to claims made by Jack and Janet Smurl of West Pittston, Pennsylvania, who alleged that a demon inhabited their home between 1974 and 1989.

The film will also feature Mia Tomlinson as Ed and Lorraine's daugther Judy, and Ben Hardy, who will play her boyfriend Tony Spera. Steve Coulter will return as Father Gordon alongside Rebecca Calder, Elliot Cowan, Kíla Lord Cassidy, Beau Gadsdon, John Brotherton, and Shannon Kook.

Michael Chaves returns to direct the new film. The filmmaker has previously helmed franchise entries such as The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It and The Nun 2.

James Wan, director of the franchise's first two entries, will serve as a producer for the film, alongside his long-time collaborator, Peter Safran.

The Conjuring Universe is the highest-grossing horror franchise of all time, earning a combined total of $2.2 billion at the worldwide box office. The main series consists of three films: The Conjuring (2013), The Conjuring 2 (2016), and The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It (2021). Subsequent sequels have also been released focusing on characters created within the series. These include Annabelle (2014), Annabelle: Creation (2017), Annabelle Comes Home (2019), The Nun (2018), and The Nun 2 (2023).

The Conjuring: Last Rites will be released in UK cinemas on September 5th, 2025.
