Breaking Glass Pictures has announced the global premiere date for their new LGBTQ+ drama Franklin.
The distributor describes the new film as “a compelling LGBTQ+ drama that captures the raw struggle between identity, ambition, and belonging” and “a film that dares to speak from the margins.”
The official synopsis reads “Franklin centres on a young adult entertainer, Franklin Scott, as he chases his Hollywood dreams while navigating the weight of rejection, personal trauma, and the expectations of others […] Franklin is a fearless and intimate examination of LGBTQ+ life rarely seen on screen—told through a lens of hope, heartbreak, and unapologetic truth.”
This is the latest release from Breaking Glass Pictures, who specialise in LGBTQ+ cinema and independent storytelling. The company was founded in 2009.
The film stars Eric Russell as Franklin and Rashad Todd as Trevor. Jared Suter, Parnell Damone Marcano, and Tangie Ambrose also feature. Ty Gaffney Smith, Thomas Davis, and René Mena complete the main cast.
Dr. Donta Morrison directs the film alongside Anthony Bawn. The pair previously worked together on the LGBTQ+ musical Midnight in Phoenix, released in cinemas earlier this month.
Bawn's previous works also include Emo Valley (2024), Bonded (2023), and the TV series Scottsdale (2023-present).
Morrison and Bawn also produced the film alongside Brandon Moten.
In a press release statement, Rich Wolff, CEO of Breaking Glass Pictures, said “Franklin is a poignant and unapologetic exploration of the complex intersections of love, family, and the pursuit of dreams […] Having witnessed the film's authenticity and raw emotion, I was immediately compelled to bring it to a global audience. Dr. Morrison and Anthony Bawn have crafted a deeply moving narrative that will resonate with viewers and shed light on important conversations within the LGBTQ+ community.”
Franklin will be released digitally & on demand on June 10, 2025.
