Warner Bros. has released the first teaser trailer for their upcoming horror/thriller film, Weapons.
The film's synopsis reads, “When all but one child from the same class mysteriously vanish on the same night at exactly the same time, a community is left questioning who or what is behind their disappearance.”
Writer and director Zach Cregger helms the film. The filmmaker first gained recognition in the horror genre with his debut feature Barbarian in 2022.
Weapons has assembled an impressive cast, featuring names such as Josh Brolin, Julia Garner, Alden Ehrenreich, Austin Abrams, Cary Christopher, Benedict Wong, and Amy Madigan.
Alongside the release of the teaser trailer comes a brand new website, which allows viewers to delve deeper into the film's mystery of the missing children.
The website explains: “A chilling mystery has gripped the small town of Maybrook after 17 children voluntarily left their homes Wednesday morning. Authorities are baffled by the inexplicable disappearance, which has shaken the community to its core. Upon investigation, front door camera footage showed the children leaving their homes at 2:17 am Wednesday morning without any signs of force. Since then, little information has surfaced.”
The website also makes reference to Cregger's Barbarian, suggesting that the two films will be set in the same universe. That page reads, “A rental property in Detroit's Brightmoor neighborhood has become the focus of a chilling investigation after a local woman escaped the home under shocking circumstances.”
Weapons was picked up by New Line in early 2023 after an intense bidding war between studios. The deal was unprecedented given that Cregger has only one previous writing and directing credit for Barbarian. Cregger's previous film became a cult horror hit, earning over $45 million at the global box office from a budget of only $4 milion.
Weapons will release in UK cinemas on August 8th, 2025.
