has confirmed that a fifth entry in the main franchise is in development, with set to return as the eponymous, legendary hitman.

Lionsgate chair Adam Fogelson announced the news at CinemaCon. Fogelson also confirmed that long-time franchise director is returning for the new film. Thunder Road producers Basil Iwanyk and Erica Lee are also involved, having produced all four previous films.

Fogelson told The Hollywood Reporter that “Keanu, Chad, Basil and Erica would not return unless they had something truly phenomenal and fresh to say with these characters and this world. We can't wait for audiences to see where the journey takes us next.”

The John Wick films have made over $1 billion at the global box office, with the most recent entry grossing over $440 million.

As well as a fifth film, Lionsgate has also revealed plans for an animated prequel, which will flash back to before the events of John Wick (2014). Reeves is also expected to return to voice Wick for this film, which is being helmed by Ultraman: Rising director Shannon Tindle. Tindle posted on X (formerly Twitter) that they are “thrilled to collaborate with these brilliant folks to tell an emotional and action-packed love story in a way only animation can.”

Ballerina, an upcoming spin-off from the main John Wick franchise, will be theatrically released on 6th June this year. It stars as a ballerina-assassin seeking revenge for her father's death. The film is set between the events of John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum (2019) and John Wick: Chapter 4 (2023).

Furthermore, a spin-off TV series titled The Continental  premiered in 2023 on Amazon Prime Video. It focuses on a young Winston Scott, played by Colin Woodell in the series and Ian McShane in the films.
