Universal Pictures has released a teaser trailer for Five Nights at Freddy's 2.
The footage for Blumhouse's upcoming sequel was released at CinemaCon, where studio head Jason Blum debuted the teaser whilst dressed head-to-toe in apparel similar to the film's murderous animatronic killers.
Five Nights at Freddy's 2 sees Josh Hutcherson return as Mike Schmidt. Elizabeth Lail and Matthew Lillard also reprise their respective roles as Vanessa Shelly and William Afton.
Last October, Lillard spoke to Forbes following confirmation that he would return for the sequel. He said “The filmmakers have done a great job of learning from the first movie of what fans want, and I think they're giving a lot more of that. It's going to be more exciting, and I think it's going to have more action.”
Newcomers to the franchise include Wayne Knight, best known for his roles in Jurassic Park (1993) and the NBC sitcom Seinfeld (1992–1998). McKenna Grace also joins the cast, having previously appeared in Ghostbusters: Afterlife (2021).
The first film follows a young man who is hired as a night security guard at an abandoned theme restaurant, Freddy Fazbear's Pizzeria, hoping it will help him retain custody of his young sister. However, he is dragged into the heart of a supernatural nightmare.
Emma Tammi returns to direct the new instalment. Tammi's previous credits include The Wind (2018) and two episodes of Into the Dark (2018-2021)
Five Nights at Freddy's (2023) became the year's highest-grossing horror movie, with over $297 million worldwide. The franchise is based on the video game series of the same name, which was created by game developer Scott Cawthon. Its success has led to the development of multiple sequels, spin-offs and book adaptations.
Five Nights at Freddy's 2 will be released in UK Cinemas on 2nd December 2025.
