Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy has stayed at the top of the UK box office for a third week, while Gia Coppola's The Last Showgirl opens in fifth.
The fourth entry in the Bridget Jones franchise made an additional £4.1 million last weekend. This takes its box office total to £36 million. Mad About the Boy will overtake the total gross of Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason (2004) this week.
Captain America: Brave New World remains in second with £1.5 million, taking its running total to £15.7 million. The 35th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) is ahead of Universal's Dog Man, which made £680,363 during its fourth weekend in cinemas. Peter Hastings' animated action comedy is now up to £12.1 million.
Osgood Perkins' The Monkey remains in fourth spot with £603,000. The Stephen King adaptation is up to £2.2 million after two weeks.
The Last Showgirl, starring Pamela Anderson and Jaime Lee Curtis, has opened in fifth place for Picturehouse Entertainment. The American drama opened with £291,598, which Screen Daily reports is Picturehouse's second-biggest opening in their history. Anderson, who rose to global stardom for her role in Baywatch (1992–1997), stars as a middle-aged Las Vegas showgirl who learns that the revue she has performed at for three decades is set to close, forcing her to grapple with an unpredictable future. Anderson received nominations at the 82nd Golden Globe Awards and the 31st SAG Awards for her performance.
Several titles that were recognised or nominated at the 97th Academy Awards experienced a boost in takings. Conclave made £197,000, representing a 45% increase that takes its box office total to £8.9 million. Brady Corbet's The Brutalist also saw a small increase in takings, bringing its total to £3.5 million.
