Sean Baker‘s Anora has ended awards season by winning five awards at the 97th Academy Awards, including Best Picture.
As well as accepting the night's top prize as a producer, Baker also won Best Director, Best Original Screenplay, and Best Editing. This makes the American filmmaker the only individual in Oscars history to win four Academy Awards for the same film. It also ties him with Walt Disney for most Oscar wins in one night.
Anora also marks the first time since Bong Joon-ho‘s Parasite (2020) that the same film has won the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival and the Academy Award for Best Picture.
Anora was also recognised in the acting categories, which saw Mikey Madison win the Academy Award for Best Actress for her titular role in Baker's film.
Brady Corbet's The Brutalist won three awards; Best Original Score, Best Cinematography, and Best Actor for Adrien Brody. This is Brody's second Academy Award, after winning for The Pianist (2003).
The Oscar for Best Supporting Actor went to Kieran Culkin for his performance in Jesse Eisenberg's A Real Pain. Meanwhile, Zoe Saldaña won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her performance in Emilia Pérez. Jacques Audiard's musical crime drama won two prizes from thirteen nominations, the other being Best Original Song for ‘El Mal.'
Peter Straughan won the Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay for Conclave. This marked the papal thriller's only award win of the night, after winning four prizes at the 2025 BAFTAs including Best Film.
Other winners include Gints Zilbalodis' Flow, which won Best Animated Feature. Meanwhile, Walter Salles' I'm Still Here won Best International Feature, becoming the first-ever Brazilian-produced film to win an Academy Award.
