Organisers have released details about the 24th WOW Wales One World Film Festival, which begins later this month.
WOW is the only UK festival that specialises in screening films predominantly from Latin America, Asia, and Africa. The festival also showcases new feature-length and short films from Wales.
In a statement, the WOW festival organisers said “This year's festival showcases stories of ‘Peace, Trust, and Resilience,' exploring the complexities of these ideals—often fragile, sometimes broken, yet always worth striving for. With powerful films that amplify unheard voices, the programme reflects WOW's dedication to showcasing narratives that ask difficult questions while offering hope and solidarity.”
Programme highlights include the Welsh premiere of Daphne Matziaraki and Peter Murimi's The Battle for Laikipia (2024). Meanwhile, Rosalind Fredericks and Sarita West's The Waste Commons (2024) will receive its UK premiere, as will Eryk Rocha and Gabriela Carneiro da Cunha's The Falling Sky (2024). The UK premiere of Hakki (2024) is followed by a Q&A with director Hikmet Kerem Ozcan.
WOW's two ‘Made in Wales' premieres are Satu – Year of the Rabbit (2024) and The Walk (2023). Q&A sessions with Welsh members of the production team will follow both screenings.
Other featured titles include Naoko Yamada's The Colors Within (2024) and Manuela Irene's Xibalba Monster (2024). Curated programmes of ‘Made in Wales' live-action and animated shorts will also be showcased.
WOW visits several towns across Wales including Bangor and Carmarthen, before concluding with a week of screenings and events in Aberystwyth.
Festival Director Annita Nitsaidou said “Our 2025 programme embraces stories that challenge assumptions, foster understanding, and celebrate resilience. We hope audiences will join us in experiencing these powerful narratives together.”
The 24th WOW Wales One World Film Festival runs from 21st March to 4th April 2025. Ticket and full programme details are available online.
