Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy has stayed at the top of the UK-Ireland box office in its second week, seeing off competition from new horror entry The Monkey.
The fourth instalment of Universal's Bridget Jones series has amassed £27.3 million in the UK and Ireland, adding £6.9 million during its second weekend. Screen Daily reports that this is a drop of just 33% from its opening.
The romantic comedy, starring Renée Zellweger, has already entered the top 200 highest-grossing films of all time in the UK. Forecasts suggest that it will surpass the £50 million mark during its theatrical run.
Mad About the Boy has solidified its position as the highest-grossing release of 2025 so far. It is ahead of Captain America: Brave New World, which holds on to second place. The 35th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) added £2.9 million across its second weekend, bringing its total to £13.2 million.
Universal's animated feature Dog Man, based on the novels by author and illustrator Dav Pilkey, saw a 9% increase during its third weekend in cinemas. It added just over £2 million to reach nearly £11 million in total.
Osgood Perkins' horror film The Monkey has opened in fourth place with £1 million. The film is an adaptation of Stephen King's famous short story about twin brothers whose family is stalked by a cursed toy monkey. This is slightly down on the debut scored by Perkins' previous film, the Saturn Award-winning horror thriller Longlegs (2024). The Monkey stars Theo James, Tatiana Maslany, and Elijah Wood.
Former box office number one, Mufasa: The Lion King (2024), has also benefitted from a boost over the half-term holidays. The Disney prequel's takings increased by 28%, adding £585,083 during its tenth weekend in cinemas.
