AMC has released the opening scene of the second season of The Walking Dead: Dead City.
The series is a sequel to The Walking Dead, which aired from 2010 until 2022. Dead City relocates the franchise from Georgia to New York. It follows Maggie Greene and Negan, characters who made their debut in the original series. They are played by Lauren Cohan and Jeffrey Dean Morgan respectively.
Season two sees Maggie and Negan's paths intertwine as they are trapped on opposite sides of a growing war for control over Manhattan.
Joining the cast for the upcoming season are Gaius Charles, Željko Ivanek, Mahina Anne Marie Napoleon, Lisa Emery, Logan Kim, Dascha Polanco and Kim Coates.
Morgan previously spoke about the new season to IGN. He said that “We find Negan very much under the thumb of The Dama and The Croat, and on some ground he's not real familiar with. He's going to try flip that script, of course. But he's in a place that I don't think he's enjoying very much. At the beginning of the season, we find him having a hard time with all of it. He's always scheming and trying to figure out how he can get on top of the situation, but he finds himself in a hard spot.”
Scott M. Gimple, producer of The Walking Dead Universe, also spoke about the conflict going into the new season. He told IGN that “There is no single big bad. There's a lot of shifting as far as the power ranking for this season. It isn't all antagonistic. It's a little more complex like that. It's a little more political. And then we get kinda physical.”
The Walking Dead: Dead City premieres in North America on 4th May 2025. A UK release is expected shortly after.
