Mufasa Holds Off Flight Risk For Top Spot (Global Box Office)

Mufasa: The Lion King has held off new entrant Flight Risk to remain at the top of the global rankings.

The Disney CGI prequel brought in an additional $24.1 million, bringing its worldwide gross to $626.7 million. Screen Daily reports that this makes Mufasa the seventh biggest release of 2024.

Flight Risk, starring Mark Wahlberg, Michelle Dockery, and Topher Grace, has debuted in second place. The airborne crime thriller made $16.2 million from 40 territories. Flight Risk follows a chartered flight across Alaska carrying a violent fugitive, and a boiling pot of mistrust ensues mid-air. The action movie is Mel Gibson's first film as a director since Hacksaw Ridge (2016), which won two Academy Awards.

Just behind Flight Risk is Sonic the Hedgehog 3 with $16.1 million. This takes the sequel's total to over $446.6 million. It is ahead of Moana 2, which made an additional $10.1 million and has now crossed the $1 billion mark.

Female buddy comedy One of Them Days made an additional $8 million. Starring Keke Palmer and SZA, the film's global box office tally now stands at $25.1 million from just three territories. It is ahead of the Bob Dylan biopic A Complete Unknown, starring Timothée Chalamet, which also made $8 million.

Leigh Whannell's horror reboot Wolf Man made $7 million to take its ongoing box office gross to $27.7 million. It is ahead of Octopus With Broken Arms with $6.8 million.

Paddington in Peru has returned to the global top ten with $6.3 million, having now been released in more territories. The third film in the Paddington franchise releases in North America on 14th February. It is ahead of Robert Eggers' Nosferatu with $6.2 million, with the vampire horror now sitting at $166.4 million globally.
