Kraven The Hunter tells the origin story of one of Spider-Man's greatest foes (one of the few to have actually killed the famous Web-slinger in the comics), but one who has not been seen on the big screen until now. After gaining popularity as the villain of the successful sequel to the PlayStation 4 game adaptation of Spider-Man, it was the perfect time to show the back story of this terrifying and cunning member of Peter Parker's Rogues Gallery.
As a part of the Sony Villains Universe, started by Venom in 2018, Kraven The Hunter puts Aaron Taylor Johnson into the iconic fur coat of the vicious killer. An actor who is no stranger to comic book movies, being not only Quicksilver in Avengers: Age Of Ultron but of course Kick-Ass in the film franchise of the same name.
One member of the crew who was a little less familiar with the genre was none other than the director, J.C. Chandor, who until now had no comic book films on his resume. With the imminent Home Entertainment release of Kraven the Hunter, FILMHOUNDS got the chance to speak with him about his “amazing” first experience where he said that it was “challenging and the hardest thing I've ever done by far!” He continued to say that “just the storytelling challenge of having to introduce characters that have never been put on film before and design what those characters were and all while managing a story (…) was exactly the challenge I was looking for.”
You can watch the full interview below where Chandor goes on to talk about his future within comic book franchises and teases a possible sequel.
Kraven The Hunter is available to buy or rent on VOD Platforms from January 28.
