Moana 2 has climbed to the top of the UK rankings in its opening week.

Disney's sequel has opened with £12 million. Screen Daily reports that this is four times what Moana (2016) debuted with when it was originally released. It has overtaken Inside Out 2 to become 2024's third-highest opening, and is the biggest post-pandemic debut for any animated film.

The family adventure musical sees Auliʻi Cravalho and Dwayne Johnson reprise their voice roles as Moana and Maui. Set three years after the original, Moana strives to find the sunken island of Motufetu which she hopes will reconnect the archipelago.

Universal's Wicked drops down to second place, earning £8.3 million. A 39.4% fall from week one, the fantasy musical has now passed £28.5 million.

In its third week, Paramount's Gladiator II grossed £2.6 million and sits in third place. Starring Paul Mescal, Pedro Pascal, and Denzel Washington, Ridley Scott's Roman epic has now reached £23.4 million.

For StudioCanal, Paddington In Peru has made an additional £1.8 million, down 57.1% from week three. This takes its total up to £27.3 million.

Edward Berger's papal mystery thriller Conclave has debuted in fifth with £1.1 million, including previews. Ralph Fiennes plays Thomas Cardinal Lawrence, who uncovers numerous scandals while organising the election of a new pope.

Red One made £425,831 for Warner Bros. in its fourth week, dropping 48.2%. Its UK box office total now stands at £6.6 million. The Hugh Grant-starring Heretic added £96,584 in its fifth week, bringing its total to £5.7 million.

Winner of the Grand Prix at the 77th Cannes Film Festival, All We Imagine As Light has opened with £50,866. Payal Kapadia's drama follows three women working at the same hospital in Mumbai.
