Moana 2 has remained at the top of the UK box office for a second week, taking its running total to £21.5 million.
The animated Disney sequel, starring Auliʻi Cravalho and Dwayne Johnson, made £6.9 million in its second week in cinemas. Screen Daily reports that the film is tracking marginally behind Inside Out 2, which had made £23.2 million at the same point after its release this summer.
Universal's Wicked, starring Cynthia Erivo, has made £5.3 million in its third week. Jon M. Chu's musical adaptation has now broken into the top five highest-grossing films of the year at the UK box office, with £37.7 million.
Ridley Scott's Gladiator II, starring Paul Mescal and Pedro Pascal, is in third. The sequel to Gladiator (2000) made £1.6 million for a total of £26.6. million. It is ahead of Paddington in Peru, with £1.2 million. This takes the StudioCanal sequel's UK box office total to £29 million.
André Rieu's 2024 Christmas Concert: Gold and Silver has opened in fifth place for Piece of Magic, with £1 million. It is ahead of the Ralph Fiennes-starring papal drama Conclave, which has dropped only 12% with £779,000.
Indian action sequel Pushpa 2 has opened with £663,570. This puts it ahead of the Christmas comedy adventure Red One, which has grossed £454,459 for a running UK box office total of £7.3 million.
Nightbitch, starring Amy Adams and based on the book by Rachel Yoder, has opened with £134,000. The horror comedy focuses on a new mother who believes she is slowly turning into a dog.
Sean Baker's Anora made an additional £40,531 at the UK box office to take its total to £1.7 million. The film recently won the Best International Independent Film Award at the 2024 BIFAs.
