Disney's animated sequel Moana 2 has remained at the top of the global box office charts, having now made $600 million worldwide.
Starring Dwayne Johnson and Auliʻi Cravalho, Moana 2 recorded an additional $155.7 million last weekend across 57 territories. Its predecessor, Moana (2016), made $687.2 million by the end of its box office run. Moana 2 is now the fifth highest-grossing release of 2024, having overtaken Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire.
Wicked is second with $61.7 million from 80 territories. This takes the musical's global box office total to $455.6 million. Screen Daily reports that Wicked is now the second highest-grossing stage adaptation of all time, behind Mamma Mia! (2008).
Indian crime thriller Pushpa: The Rule—Part 2 is third with $57.6 million. This places it ahead of Ridley Scott's Gladiator II, which made an additional £29.5 million at the global box office. This brings the historical epic's worldwide gross to $368.4 million.
The Chinese comedy-drama Her Story rounds out the top five with $12.2 million. Shao Yihui's film has not been released in North America, but its global box office total now stands at $74.9 million from seven territories.
Christmas adventure Red One has made an additional $10.5 million. This takes the film's worldwide gross to $163.9 million. This compares to a reported budget of $200–250 million.
Burning Star is a new entrant with $6.6 million. Xu Zhanxiong's thriller has only opened in China so far. It is ahead of a re-release of Christopher Nolan's science fiction epic Interstellar (2014), which has made an additional $4.4 million for a running total of $29.1 million.
South Korean drama The Firefighters and the anime feature Solo Leveling: ReAwakening complete the top ten, with $4.3 million and $3.5 million respectively.
