Moana 2 has remained at the top of the global box office, having now reached a worldwide gross of $717 million.
The Disney sequel made an additional $83.8 million across 53 territories last weekend. Screen Daily reports that this is a 46.2% drop compared to last week, but was still enough for Moana 2 to overtake Dune: Part Two as the fourth-biggest release of 2024.
Wicked is in second place with $44 million, having now opened in new territories such as Germany and Austria. John M. Chu's film is now the second highest-grossing musical adaptation of all time with $525 million.
Pushpa: The Rule—Part 2 is in third with $29.4 million, ahead of new entrant Kraven the Hunter with $26 million for Sony. This is down on the $49.1 million debut achieved by Madame Web earlier this year. It is also considerably lower than the $175 million global box office opening scored by Venom: The Last Dance.
Gladiator II is fifth with an additional $17.5 million for Paramount. This is over double the opening total posted by The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim. The anime spin-off of Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings trilogy opened with $8.6 million across 73 territories.
Chinese drama Her Story made an additional $7.1 million in seventh to take its global box office total to $88.1 million. It is ahead of the Christmas adventure-comedy Red One, which brought in $6.8 million.
Hong Kong drama The Last Dance posted $6.6 million across eight territories. Anselm Chan's film has made $29.4 million at the global box office. It is ahead of the new Japanese release Cells at Work! which brought in $5.7 million from its nationwide debut.
