UK Box Office — Paddington In Peru Opens In First Place

Paddington in Peru has opened at the top of the UK with the third-largest debut of 2024.

The adventure feature made £9.7 million across its opening weekend. Screen Daily reports that this is the highest opening weekend of the Paddington trilogy and the biggest ever for a StudioCanal title.

Directed by Dougal Wilson, the third Paddington film follows the Browns as they visit Aunt Lucy in Peru. Ben Whishaw, Hugh Bonneville, Julie Walters, and Jim Broadbent reprise their roles. They are joined by franchise newcomers Olivia Colman and Emily Mortimer.

Red One, Jake Kasdan's Christmas film, opened in second with £2.4 million including previews. Dwayne Johnson plays the Head of Santa Claus' Enforcement Logistics & Fortification (ELF) division who teams up with Chris Evans‘ hacker to save Santa and Christmas.

In third place, Heretic grossed £1 million for A24, dropping 33.3% in its second week. The Hugh Grant-starring horror has now made £3.8 million at the . It is ahead of Venom: The Last Dance, which added £965,026 in its third week for a total of £11 million.

Universal's The Wild Robot dropped 69.3% in its fourth week with £664,667. This takes its UK box office gross to £12.7 million. In sixth place is Small Things Like These, posting £657,151 in its second week. This takes the historical drama's UK box office gross to £2.2 million.

The horror sequel Smile 2 earned £310,000 in its fourth week, taking it to £6.1 million. This is less than the £11.7 million made by Smile (2022).

Sean Baker‘s Anora earned an additional £240,719, with a 35.9% drop from its debut week. The romantic comedy-drama has become Baker's highest-grossing film with £1.1 million, overtaking The Florida Project (2017).
