Neon has released an official trailer for their upcoming horror film, Presence.
Steven Soderbergh is directing the new feature. David Koepp, whose credits include Jurassic Park (1993) and Spider-Man (2002), is writing the film.
Presence takes place from the first-person perspective of a ghostly entity as it terrorises a family. The film is also shot entirely in one location.
The film's official logline reads “In Presence, a family moves into a suburban house and becomes convinced they are not alone. A supernatural force has infiltrated the house, and taken a specific interest in the couple's daughter.”
Soderbergh previously spoke to Variety about the film's unconventional narrative. He said “I wanted to find a different way to tell the story. Everything is revealed through the glimpses of this family that this presence sees. And the whole ghost genre element is a Trojan horse to show a group of people in danger of falling apart.”
The director's previous films include Erin Brockovich (2000), the Ocean's franchise beginning with Ocean's Eleven (2001), and two films in the Magic Mike trilogy. Soderbergh also won the Academy Award for Best Director for the crime drama Traffic (2000).
Presence stars Lucy Liu, Chris Sullivan, and Callina Liang. Additionally, Julia Fox, Eddy Maday and West Mulholland complete the cast.
Liu is known for her roles in Kill Bill: Volume 1 (2003), Charlie's Angels (2000), and also the CBS series Elementary (2012-2019).
Neon acquired the rights for Presence shortly after its premiere at the Sundance Film Festival in January of this year.
The studio's other recent releases include Osgood Perkins' Longlegs, which earned over $100 million at the global box office. Neon has also released Michael Mohan's Immaculate and Tilman Singer's Cuckoo so far in 2024.
Presence will be released in UK cinemas on 24th January 2025.
