Memoir Of A Snail UK Release Date Confirmed

Modern Films has announced that 's Memoir of a Snail will be theatrically released in the UK & Ireland next February.

The Oscar-winning director's stop-motion feature won the Best Film Prize at the 2024 London Film Festival. It is the first animation to be awarded the festival's top prize.

Furthermore, Memoir of a Snail is Elliot's first feature film in fifteen years.

The synopsis reads “Grace Pudel is a lonely misfit with an affinity for collecting ornamental snails and an intense love for books. At a young age, when Grace is separated from her fire-breathing twin brother Gilbert, she falls into a spiral of anxiety and angst. Despite a continued series of hardships, inspiration and hope emerges when she strikes up an enduring friendship with an elderly eccentric woman named Pinky, who is full of grit and lust for life.”

Memoir of a Snail also won the Best Film Award at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival.

The film stars Sarah Snook, best known for her performance as Shiv Roy in Succession (2018-2023). Kodi Smit-McPhee, Eric Bana, and Nick Cave also feature.

Elliot won the Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film for Harvie Krumpet (2003). The animated tragicomedy focuses on an immigrant who retains his optimism despite being blighted by incessant bad luck.

Elliot's feature debut, Mary and Max (2009), stars Toni Collette, Philip Seymour Hoffman, and Barry Humphries. It adapts elements of Elliott's own life to tell a story about an unlikely pen pal relationship between a lonely eight-year-old Australian girl and an obese autistic man living in New York City. Mary and Max was the first animated film in history to be screened in the opening night slot at the Sundance Film Festival.

Memoir of a Snail will be released in UK cinemas on February 14 2025.
