Venom: The Last Dance has remained at the top of the global box office for another week, seeing off competition from the Christmas adventure-comedy Red One.
The Marvel sequel, starring Tom Hardy, grossed an additional $49.2 million last weekend. This takes its global total to $394.2 million. Consequently, Screen Daily reports that The Last Dance has broken into the top ten highest-grossing global releases of the year so far.
Red One, starring Dwayne Johnson and Chris Evans, opened internationally with $26.6 million. However, the Warner Bros. film only opens in North America this weekend. Red One sees Johnson and Evans team up to save Father Christmas (J. K. Simmons) after he is kidnapped.
Universal's The Wild Robot is in third place with $15.6 million. This takes its global box office total to $292.5 million. It is ahead of A24's Heretic, which grossed an additional $12.6 million having now opened in North America. The Hugh Grant-starring psychological horror has made $16.3 million worldwide.
Paddington in Peru, the third film in the Paddington franchise, has broken into the global top five with $12.3 million. This is despite the StudioCanal film only having been released in the UK so far. Ben Wishaw, Hugh Bonneville, and Olivia Colman star in the sequel, which doesn't release in North America until 17th January 2025.
Indian titles Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 and Singham Again are in sixth and seventh, both with $11.7 million. They rank ahead of Lionsgate's The Best Christmas Pageant Ever, which has opened in North America with $11.1 million.
Chinese melodrama The Untold Story opened in its home territory, also with $11.1 million. This places it ahead of Smile 2 in the rankings, with the horror sequel having now made $123.6 million at the global box office.
