The Last Of Us Season Two Trailer Released

HBO has released an official trailer and trio of posters for the second season of .

The trailer includes footage of returning characters Joel (Pedro Pascal), Ellie (Bella Ramsey), and Tommy (Gabriel Luna). Its release coincides with the franchise's official celebration day, which falls on 26th September. This is the day of the virus outbreak in the original 2013 action-adventure video game by Naughty Dog.

The official synopsis for season two reads “After five years of peace following the events of the first season, Joel and Ellie's collective past catches up to them, drawing them into conflict with each other and a world even more dangerous and unpredictable than the one they left behind.”

Additionally, the HBO horror series will introduce new cast members. This includes Golden Globe and Primetime Emmy Award nominee Kaitlyn Dever as Abby, and Isabela Merced as Dina.

Also joining the cast are Young Mazino as Jesse, Ariela Barer as Mel, and Tati Gabrielle as Nora. Spencer Lord, Danny Ramirez, Jeffrey Wright, and guest star Catherine O'Hara complete the main cast.

IndieWire reports that season one was HBO's most-watched debut season in its history. The show was also nominated for a total of 24 Emmy awards, including Best Drama Series, and won eight.

The Last of Us is written and directed by Chernobyl‘s Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann, creator of the video games on which the series is based. The games franchise, consisting of The Last of Us and The Last of Us Part II (2020), had sold over 37 million copies as of January 2023. A remastered version of the second game was released in January 2024. The franchise has also expanded into comic books and tabletop games.

Season two will be released at a currently unspecified date in 2025.
