Searchlight Pictures has released the first trailer for Nightbitch, starring Amy Adams.
The official synopsis reads “Nightbitch tells the story of a woman thrown into the stay-at-home routine of raising a toddler in the suburbs, who slowly embraces the feral power deeply rooted in motherhood, as she becomes increasingly aware of the bizarre and undeniable signs that she may be turning into a canine.”
Nightbitch is the fourth feature film from director Marielle Heller. The film is slated to premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) on 7th September 2024.
Adams, a six-time Academy Award nominee, stars as Mother and is also a co-producer for the film. The cast also includes Scoot McNairy as her husband, Arleigh Patrick Snowden, and Emmett James Snowden.
Alongside the six-time Academy Award nominee, Nightbitch stars Scoot McNairy as Mother's Husband, Arleigh Patrick Snowden, and Emmett James Snowden.
Also cast in supporting roles are Zoë Chao, Mary Holland, Ella Thomas, Archana Rajan, and Jessica Harper.
Nightbitch is adapted from the 2021 novel of the same name by American author Rachel Yoder. Annapurna Pictures acquired the film rights to Yoder's story in 2020. In the same year, Adams became attached to the project. Heller then joined as director and started developing the film during the pandemic.
Heller previously told The Hollywood Reporter “Rachel Yoder's book […] made me feel seen. And adapting it with Amy Adams in mind has been the thing that has kept me going through the pandemic.”
Heller's previous films include the Academy Award-nominated dramas Can You Ever Forgive Me? (2018) and A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood (2019). Additionally, Heller's feature debut, The Diary of a Teenage Girl (2015), won the Best First Feature prize at the Independent Spirit Awards.
Nightbitch will be released in UK cinemas on 6th December 2024.
