Sony Pictures' It Ends With Us, starring Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni, has opened at the top of the UK box office.
The romantic drama opened to a £4.5 million weekend gross. The film is based on the 2016 novel of the same name by Colleen Hoover. Baldoni also directs.
The film moves the Marvel sequel Deadpool & Wolverine down to second place, with £4.1 million. Screen Daily reports that its UK box office total now stands at £43.7 million, making it the second highest-grossing title of the year at the UK & Ireland box office after Inside Out 2. Worldwide, the film has now surpassed $1 billion.
Universal's Despicable Me 4 is in third place with £1.4m in its fifth week in cinemas for a £35.5 million total. It has now surpassed the UK box office total of Despicable Me 2 (2013) and Minions: The Rise Of Gru (2022).
M Night Shyamalan's new thriller Trap, starring Josh Hartnett, opened to £1.1 million to put it in fourth place. This is more than the director's two previous films Old (2021) and Knock At The Cabin (2023). They opened with £867,431 and £986,320 respectively.
Disney's Inside Out 2 posted an additional £619,000 to take its UK box office total to £54.3 million.
Disaster flick Twisters starring Glen Powell added £586,887 to bring its cumulative total to £12 million. It is above Eli Roth's Borderlands, an adaptation of the acclaimed video game series of the same name. The action film opened to £554,424.
Rich Peppiatt's Irish-language hip-hop drama Kneecap debuted with £249,678 in Ireland. The film opens in cinemas across the whole UK on 23rd August. It is ahead of Sony's Harold And The Purple Crayon, which added £215,080 to its current box office total.
