Cranked Up Films has released a trailer for the upcoming conversion therapy horror The Exorcism of Saint Patrick.
The new film centres on a pastor who takes a young gay teenager to the woods to try and convert him from homosexuality. When the pastor's insensitive and aggressive tactics drive the boy to take his own life, the ghosts of the conversion camp's victims return for revenge.
The Exorcism of Saint Patrick is the first film in writer & director Quinn Armstrong's Fresh Hell Trilogy. The second entry, Wolves Against the World, will be released one week after the first film, with Dead Teenagers following the week after.
The cast includes Michael J. Cline and Maya Jeyam in their feature acting debuts. They star alongside Steve Pinder.
The film's visual effects come courtesy of Dave Greathouse. Greathouse's previous credits include The Usual Suspects (1995), The Killing of a Sacred Deer (2017), and Wrong Turn (2021).
The new trilogy wrapped production in February this year. In a statement to Bloody Disgusting, Armstrong said “The first horror movie I ever remember watching was Creepshow and I still think that horror anthologies are the backbone of the genre.
“It's been such a pleasure to work in the tradition of horror anthologies to create Fresh Hell, an anthology of features with a modern twist.”
Armstrong made his feature directorial debut with Survival Skills (2020), a comedy horror which follows a policeman who becomes disenfranchised with his training. The film was nominated for Best Narrative Feature and Best First Feature at the Philadelphia Film Festival. Survival Skills stars the Golden Globe award-winning actor Stacy Keach.
Other recent conversion therapy horror films include John Logan's They/Them (2022) and Beer Adriaanse's Parable (2023).
The Exorcism of Saint Patrick is released on demand in selected cinemas from 27th August 2024.
