Netflix has shared a behind-the-scenes look at the fifth and final season of Stranger Things.
In addition to the first look video, the streamer has also welcomed Nell Fisher, Jake Connelly and Alex Breaux to the cast. Fisher is best known for her role in Evil Dead Rise (2023).
Also joining the cast for its final season is Terminator (1984) star Linda Hamilton.
Series creators Matt & Ross Duffer previously told Tudum “We know what's going on in the Upside Down, more or less, but we want it to be unknowable. We want it to be mysterious.”
In an interview with Podcrushed, series regular Maya Hawke said “Our showrunners, Matt and Ross, take a lot of responsibility. They have an amazing team of writers, but they're very involved. They write a lot and they are very intense and serious about the quality of the continued writing, and so it takes a long time to write each season, and a long time to shoot them.”
Hawke also spoke about the scale of the final eight episodes, likening them to be more like “eight movies.”
Created by the Duffer Brothers, Stranger Things debuted in July 2016. Its fourth season amassed over 140.7 million views globally, making it the second most-watched English language season in Netflix's history,
Stranger Things has garnered over 70 awards worldwide including Emmys and the Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series. In total, it has been nominated for over 230 awards.
While the main series is coming to an end, the Duffer Brothers have confirmed that related projects are currently in development. This includes Stranger Things: The First Shadow live on stage in London's West End, and an untitled animated spinoff series.
No release date for season five has been confirmed.
