A teaser trailer has been released for the upcoming sports drama F1, starring Brad Pitt and Damson Idris.
The upcoming film sees Pitt play Sonny Hayes, a retired Formula One driver who is convinced to return to the sport as a mentor for an up-and-coming rookie.
Apple TV's official synopsis states that Pitt stars “as a former driver who returns to Formula 1, alongside Damson Idris as his teammate at APXGP, a fictional team on the grid.”
Pitt previously spoke to Sky Sports F1 about the film. He described how it focuses on “a guy who raced in the 1990s… who has a horrible crash, craps out and disappears, then he's racing in other disciplines. His friend […] a team owner, contacts him. They're a last-place team, they're 21-22 on the grid, they've never scored a point. But they have a young phenom […] and they bring me in as kind of a Hail Mary and hijinks ensue.”
Idris stars as Joshua “Noah” Pearce, the young driver who Hayes takes under his wing. Kerry Condon, Tobias Menzies, and Academy Award-winner Javier Bardem also star.
Additionally, current real-life Formula One drivers and their teams will also appear as themselves. These include seven-time World Champion Sir Lewis Hamilton and the current three-time World Champion Max Verstappen.
Joseph Kosinski, best known for Top Gun: Maverick (2022), is directing the new film. Kosinski's other works include Tron: Legacy (2010), Oblivion (2013), and Spiderhead (2022).
Two-time Oscar winner Hans Zimmer, who waved the chequered flag at this year's Austrian Grand Prix, will score the film. F1 marks Zimmer's second collaboration with director Kosinski after Top Gun: Maverick.
The trailer was first shared during last weekend's British Grand Prix. The race was won by Lewis Hamilton from Verstappen.
F1 is released in UK cinemas on 25th June 2025.
