Warner Bros. Animation and DC have released the first trailer for Batman: Caped Crusader, the new Prime Video series from Matt Reeves.
Reeves, who also directed The Batman (2022), is collaborating with J.J. Abrams and former Batman: The Animated Series animator Bruce Timm.
The official synopsis reads “Welcome to Gotham City, where the corrupt outnumber the good, criminals run rampant and law-abiding citizens live in a constant state of fear. Forged in the fire of tragedy, wealthy socialite Bruce Wayne becomes something both more and less than human — the Batman. His one-man crusade attracts unexpected allies within the GCPD and City Hall, but his heroic actions spawn deadly, unforeseen ramifications.”
Last week, it was confirmed that Hamish Linklater will voice the Batman & Bruce Wayne in the new ten-part series. Linklater’s previous credits include Father Paul in Midnight Mass (2021), for which he won the Critics’ Choice Super Award for Best Actor in a Horror Series. He also starred in The New Adventures of Old Christine (2006-2010) and the Marvel series Legion (2017-2019).
The series will also star Christina Ricci, best known for her roles as Wednesday Addams in The Addams Family (1991) and Misty Quigley in Yellowjackets (2021-Present). Ricci will voice Catwoman / Selina Kyle. Jamie Chung, Minnie Driver, Mckenna Grace, and Diedrich Bader also star. Bader has previously voiced Batman in other animated projects, including Batman: The Brave and the Bold (2008-2011) and Harley Quinn (2019-Present).
The release of Batman: Caped Crusader follows the death of long-time Batman voice actor Kevin Conroy, who died in 2022. Conroy played the character in numerous television series, films, and video games. Conroy’s final, posthumous performance as Batman will be in Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths – Part Three, which releases next month.
Batman: Caped Crusader will be released on 1st August 2024.
