has released the first official teaser trailer for the upcoming Nosferatu remake.

The new film is “a gothic tale of obsession between a haunted young woman and the terrifying vampire infatuated with her, causing untold horror in its wake,” according to the official synopsis.

It is the second remake of F.W. Murnau's original Nosferatu (1922), after Werner Herzog's 1979 entry.

Nosferatu is written and directed by Robert Eggers, marking his fourth feature film release. The American filmmaker's previous films include The Witch (2015), The Lighthouse (2019) and The Northman (2022).

In an interview with EMPIRE last November, Eggers said “It's a scary film. It's a horror movie. It's a Gothic horror movie.

“And I do think that there hasn't been an old-school Gothic movie that's actually scary in a while. And I think that the majority of audiences will find this one to be the case.”

Nosferatu stars Bill Skarsgard as the vampiric Count Orlok. Skarsgard is mostly known for his role as Pennywise The Clown in the 2017 remake of It (2017) and It: Chapter 2 (2019). His other credits include Barbarian (2022), Boy Kills World (2023), and The Crow (2024), another upcoming remake.

Lily Rose-Depp stars as Ellen Hutter, whom Orlok becomes infatuated with. Nicholas Hoult features as her husband, Thomas Hutter.

Willem Defoe, Emma Corrin, Ralph Ineson, and Aaron Taylor-Johnson round off the cast.

Skarsgard previously spoke to Esquire about his transformation into Count Orlok. He described the process as “conjuring pure evil.”

Skarsgard later added “It's playing with a sexual fetish about the power of the monster […] hopefully you'll get a little bit attracted by it and disgusted by your attraction at the same time.”

Nosferatu has a confirmed Christmas Day release in the US. A UK release date has not been confirmed.
