Paramount has released a first-look trailer for its upcoming horror sequel, Smile 2.
Parker Finn, writer and director of Smile (2022), is returning for the sequel. Additionally, Kyle Gallner is reprising his role as Joel from the first film.
Paramount's official synopsis reads “About to embark on a new world tour, global pop sensation Skye Riley (Naomi Scott) begins experiencing increasingly terrifying and inexplicable events. Overwhelmed by the escalating horrors and the pressures of fame, Skye is forced to face her dark past to regain control of her life before it spirals out of control.”
Scott is best known for her role as Princess Jasmine in Disney's live-action Aladdin (2019). Gallner's previous credits include Jennifer's Body (2009), A Nightmare on Elm Street (2010), and The Passenger (2023).
Smile is a sequel to Finn's short film Laura Hasn't Slept (2020). The story focuses on a woman whose nightmares are plagued by a sinister man smiling at her.
Smile is the highest-grossing horror film of 2022. It made $217 million at the global box office from a budget of $17 million. Its success followed a viral marketing campaign that saw random people sporting the malevolent “smile” at high-profile events.
In a 2022 interview, Finn said “I made Smile to, of course, be self-contained, tell its whole own story. I didn't think in a million years that there would be such a demand for a sequel. But having said that, I think there are definitely things inside of the film that remain purposefully unexplored that would be very exciting to dive into.”
A newly created Instagram and billboards on Sunset Boulevard in Los Angeles are promoting Skye Riley's new single, ‘Blood on White Satin'. The song has now been released.
Smile 2 is released in UK cinemas on 18th October 2024.
