has announced that Coraline (2009) will return to cinemas later this summer.

The stop-motion children's dark fantasy, based on a 2002 novella by Neil Gaiman, will be screening in remastered 2D and 3D. The release commemorates the 15th anniversary of LAIKA's first feature film.

The screenings will also feature an exclusive glimpse of the studio's upcoming film, Wildwood.

Coraline stars Dakota Fanning in the titular role, alongside Teri Hatcher, Dawn French, and Jennifer Saunders. Keith David, Ian McShane, and John Hodgman also star.

The film follows 11-year-old Caroline Jones as she moves house with her mother and father. While exploring, she discovers a parallel world hiding behind a secret door in her new home. There she finds doppelgängers of her parents with buttons for eyes and a host of other fantastical characters who aren't as friendly as they seem.

The film was written and directed by Henry Selick. Selick is best known as the director of The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993), James and the Giant Peach (1996), and Wendell & Wild (2022).

Coraline made over $131 million worldwide from a $60 million budget. The film was also nominated for the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature.

After Coraline, LAIKA released ParaNorman (2012) and The Boxtrolls (2014). This was followed by Kubo and the Two Strings (2016) and Missing Link (2019). All of LAIKA's feature films to date have been nominated for Academy Awards.

In a statement, the studio's Chief Marketing and Operations Officer David Burke said “LAIKA set the 3D standard with the 2009 release of Coraline. This newly remastered version, in the works for three years, brings Neil Gaiman's enchanting story to life in stunning, stereoscopic 3D detail, and is a love letter to LAIKA fans everywhere.”

Coraline will be released in UK cinemas on July 5th 2024.
