Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes has topped the UK in its opening weekend.

The fourth entry in the Planet of the Apes reboot franchise debuted with £3.2 million across 650 sites. However, Screen Daily reports that this represents the lowest opening of the reboot franchise to date, behind the £4.7 million of Rise of the Planet of the Apes (2011).

The latest film is the first in a newly planned trilogy. it takes place 300 years after the previous instalment, War of the Planet of the Apes (2017).

The Fall Guy meanwhile drops one place to second, with £948,970. This is a drop of 70% compared to its debut weekend at the . Luca Guadagnino's Challengers dropped 66% compared to its second week, but remains in third place with £333,125.

Additionally, the Amy Winehouse biopic Back to Black stays fourth, with £211,104. Its UK box office total now stands at £11.3 million.

Spenser Cohen and Anna Halberg's feature film debut Tarot has climbed up one place compared to last weekend. An additional £140,983 means that the supernatural horror has almost a £1 million UK box office gross. Its worldwide total stands at $20.5 million.

The animated comedy adventure Kung Fu Panda 4 and the romantic thriller Love Lies Bleeding made an additional £139,738 and £87,060 respectively. They were split by event screenings of NT Live: Nye from the National theatre. The production, starring Martin Sheen, made £117,285 for a current total of £1.2 million.

Met Opera: Madama Butterfly debuted with £85, 337 in its first weekend. This places it ahead of Alex Garland's Civil War, which has made an additional £80,109 to push its UK box office total to over £6 million.
