Mayhem Film Festival 20th Anniversary Dates Announced

The Nottingham-based has announced dates for its 20th anniversary, which sees the festival return just before Halloween.

The annual horror event will return to Broadway, Nottingham for four days in October with a selected programme of international horror, science fiction, and cult cinema.

While the feature line-up is yet to be announced, Mayhem have as of Friday 3rd May opened submissions for short films. Any qualifying film produced after 1st January 2023 is eligible for submission.

All submissions must be under 22 minutes long. More information on how to submit and the submission criteria are available via FilmFreeway.

In a statement, Mayhem Film Festival Co-Director Chris Cooke said “It's our 20th anniversary and Mayhem continues to be a forward-looking festival, bringing audiences the best in brand new previews and premieres of original genre cinema from around the world.”

Ahead of the 20th anniversary, Broadway's Marketing Director Stewart Terry said that “We can't wait to welcome Mayhem back to Broadway for their 20th year. It's always the most exciting time in the building, with horror fans from across the country visiting Nottingham to get their bloody fix!”

Last year's festival featured UK premieres of Bertrand Mandico's She Is Conann (2023), Franck Khalfoun's Night of the Hunted (2023) and Thomas Sainsbury's Loop Track (2023).

In previous years, the Mayhem Film Festival has welcomed guests such as Godzilla (2014) and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (2016) director Gareth Edwards, The League of Gentlemen (1999-2002) creator Mark Gattis, and Ben Wheatley for a preview screening of Sightseers (2012).

Starburst Magazine, the world's longest-running magazine of cult entertainment, previously said that Mayhem “continues to boast some of the finest programming around.”

The 20th Mayhem Film Festival will take place at Broadway, Nottingham from the 17th to the 20th of October 2024.
