A24 and 's Friday the 13th prequel series has lost its showrunner.

Bryan Fuller, posting on social media, confirmed that the studio is looking for someone else to lead the upcoming series.

Fuller wrote that “For reasons beyond our control, A24 has elected to go a different way with the material. We hope the final product will be something Friday the 13th fans all over the world will enjoy.”

Fuller previously spearheaded the horror-thriller series Hannibal and the documentary series Queer for Fear: The History of Queer Horror. He was set to serve as writer, executive producer and showrunner for the show.

The series, which is tentatively titled Crystal Lake, was first commissioned at Peacock in 2022. It has been described as “expanded prequel” to the Friday the 13th franchise.

Fuller's exit from the project follows recent reports claiming that A24 had withdrawn the series altogether. However, Variety and Bloody Disgusting both confirmed that plans for Crystal Lake are still moving ahead.

Original franchise writer Victor Miller remains involved as an executive producer alongside Marc Toberoff and Rob Barsamian.

There have been no casting or filming schedule announcements.
