Francis Ford Coppola has shared a first-look teaser for his new film Megalopolis on Instagram.
Coppola, who joined social media specifically to promote what he calls “the most interesting film of my career,” also dedicated the project to his late wife Eleanor.
The multiple Oscar-winning director said “Megalopolis has always been a film dedicated to my dear wife Eleanor. I really had hoped to celebrate her birthday together […] but sadly that was not to be, so let me share with everyone a gift on her behalf.”

Eleanor Coppola died on 12th April aged 87.
Megalopolis stars Ferrari‘s Adam Driver as an architect attempting to rebuild New York as an American utopia. The ensemble cast includes Nathalie Emmanuel, Aubrey Plaza, and Dustin Hoffman. Jon Voigt, Giancarlo Esposito, and Laurence Fishburne are also set to star.
The film was recently picked up for distribution by the French company Le Pacte. A U.S. distribution deal is being negotiated.
Coppola is best known for directing The Godfather Trilogy, as well as the Vietnam War film Apocalypse Now (1979), the comedy-drama Peggy Sue Got Married (1986) and the horror Bram Stoker’s Dracula (1992). He has previously been ranked by the BFI as one of the ten greatest film directors of all time.
Coppola is self-financing Megalopolis, which has a budget of $120 million. In 2022, when receiving a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, Coppola told Variety that “The way that it works is that when a picture opens, the studio that has financed or distributed it pays to get your name on the street. Since I have either financed or distributed my own movies, I’ve never had the good fortune of having a studio take that event.”
Megalopolis is set to premiere at the 77th Cannes Film Festival on 17th May 2024.
