Academy Award-winner Julia Roberts and BAFTA Award-winner Andrew Garfield have been cast in Luca Guadagnino’s new thriller After the Hunt.
The Italian filmmaker is directing, while Nora Garrett is writing the script. Additionally, Brian Grazer and Allen Mandelbaum of Imagine Entertainment will be producing alongside Guadagnino.
The film follows a college professor in a tense attempt to keep her past under wraps as accusations are raised against a fellow faculty member at her university. The film is intended to start production this summer.

After the Hunt represents the first time that Roberts and Garfield have worked together on a project.
Deadline reports that After the Hunt is targeting a summer 2025 theatrical release.
Guadagino has garnered acclaim for films such as Call Me By Your Name (2017) and Suspiria (2018), with Call Me By Your Name winning Best Adapted Screenplay at the 90th Academy Awards and the 71st British Academy Film Awards. His most recent film, Challengers (2024) has been a box office success in the UK, making it to the top spot in its opening weekend. Guadagino’s next film Queer, featuring Daniel Craig and Drew Starkey, will be released later this year.
Roberts is best known for her roles in Pretty Woman (1990) and Eat Pray Love (2010). She won the Academy Award for Best Actress for her titular performance in Erin Brockovich (2001). Roberts most recently starred in Sam Esmail’s thriller Leave The World Behind (2023) alongside Mahershala Ali and Ethan Hawke.
Garfield played the Marvel superhero Spider-Man in The Amazing Spider-Man (2012) and its sequel. He has been nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actor twice, for his performances in Hacksaw Ridge (2017) and Tick, Tick…Boom (2021). Garfield is also starring in John Crowley’s upcoming romance film We Live in Time, which is currently in post-production.
