Kung Fu Panda 4, the fourth film in the animated comedy series starring Jack Black, has usurped Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire at the top of the UK-Ireland box office.
The sequel, directed by Mike Mitchell, added £2.8 million to its UK gross in its second weekend of release. This represents a drop of 28% from its first week of release, according to Screen Daily.
Kung Fu Panda 4 has now taken in £12.8 million at UK cinemas, meaning that it is closing in on the £14.2 million made by Kung Fu Panda 3 (2016).
Adam Wingard's Godzilla x Kong fell to second place, adding approximately £2 million to its total. With a total UK gross of £9.2 million, it has now passed the £9 million made by Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019). Worldwide, Godzilla x Kong is now up to approximately $362.9 million.
Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, in third place, has now brought in £12.1 million. This takes it above both Ghostbusters: Afterlife (2021) and Paul Feig's Ghostbusters (2016).
Dune: Part Two remains in fourth place, having made an additional £1.1 million in what is now its sixth weekend in cinemas. The sci-fi sequel remains the most successful film at the UK box office so far this year.
Dune: Part Two, with a $665 million worldwide gross, is also currently the most successful global cinema release of 2024.
Dev Patel's Monkey Man is the only new release to have broken into the UK top five, having made almost £810,000 over its opening weekend. The violent action thriller had originally been planned as a Netflix original, before a theatrical release was confirmed back in January.
Other new releases include the horror film The First Omen, which opened with over £520,000.
