Disney has released a trailer for their new animated series Star Wars: Tales of the Empire, a follow-up to 2022's Tales of the Jedi.
The new series, the second in the Star Wars: Tales anthology, focuses on the stories of the Nightsister Morgan Elsbeth and the former Jedi Barriss Offee. This mirrors the structure of Tales of the Jedi, which also centred on two existing Star Wars characters (Ahsoka Tano and Count Dooku). Tales of the Empire will show Elsbeth's rise to power among the Empire's ranks as she seeks vengeance, and how Offee seemingly becomes one of the Imperial Inquisitors.
Diana Lee Inosanto will voice Elsbeth, having previously played the character in The Mandalorian and Ahsoka. In a post on X, Inosanto said that she is “honoured” to be returning to the role.
Meredith Salenger is also reprising her role as Offee, having voiced the fallen Jedi in Star Wars: The Clone Wars.
Other returning performers and characters include Lars Mikkelsen as Thrawn, Matthew Wood as General Grievous, and Jason Isaacs as the Grand Inquisitor. Isaacs is returning to the role given to Rupert Friend for the live-action series Obi-Wan Kenobi.
The series' creator, Dave Filoni, is also the supervising director. Filoni is also an executive producer alongside Athena Yvette Portillo and Carrie Beck.
Morgan Elsbeth is a close ally of Grand Admiral Thrawn, a character who made his canonical debut in Star Wars Rebels. As seen in Ahsoka, Thrawn survived the fall of the Empire and has been scheming for his return.
During the events of The Clone Wars, Offee framed Ahsoka Tano for the bombing of the Jedi Temple. Tano was only freed when Anakin Skywalker captured Offee and she subsequently confessed.
Star Wars: Tales Of The Empire releases on Disney+ on 4th May 2024.
