Fallout has been renewed for a second season by Amazon, one week after it premiered on Prime Video.
Created by Graham Wagner and Geneva Robertson-Dworet, Fallout's eight episodes received generally positive reviews, with a 93% average Tomatometer score on Rotten Tomatoes.
In a press release, Amazon reported that the post-apocalyptic drama ranked among the service's all-time top three most-watched titles. Fallout is also the most-watched series on the platform since The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power was released in 2022.
Fallout debuted in more than 240 countries.
“The bar was high for lovers of this iconic video game and so far, we seem to have exceeded their expectations,” said Jennifer Salke, Head of Amazon MGM Studios.
Cast members expressed their excitement when the announcement was made on the series' Instagram. Ella Purnell, who plays Lucy, commented “hell yeah” while Kyle MacLachlan, who plays Lucy's father Hank, replied “LFG.”
The main cast also stars Aaron Moten and Xelia Mendes-Jones as members of the Brotherhood of Steel, Moisés Arias, and Walton Goggins.
“We can't wait to blow up the world all over again,” said executive producers Jonathan Nolan, who also directed the first three episodes, and Lisa Joy, of Kilter Films.
The series is based on the video game franchise created by Tim Cain and Leonard Boyarsky. There have been 11 games in the franchise to date, including spin-offs. Todd Howard, an executive producer from Bethesda Game Studios and director of several Fallout titles, joined the Amazon series as an executive producer.
Fallout is set in a retrofuturistic America in 2296 where nuclear technology advances rapidly after World War Two. Survivors of the Great War of 2077 flee to fallout bunkers called Vaults, aiming to eventually recolonise the surface.
No release date for the second season has been confirmed.
