A24 has finally released the first official trailer for MaXXXine, marking the final entry in director Ti West's acclaimed X horror trilogy.

Set in 1980s Hollywood, MaXXXine will follow adult film star and aspiring actress Maxine Minx, the only survivor of the bloody events of X (2022) as she finally gets her big break. But as a killer stalks the starlets of Hollywood, a trail of blood threatens to reveal her past.

MaXXXine, which serves as the sequel to previous entries X and Pearl (2022), sees Mia Goth reprise her role as Maxine Minx. Goth also starred as the titular killer Pearl in the prequel. She is joined by an ensemble cast which includes Halsey, Elizabeth Debicki, and Moses Sumney.

Michelle Monaghan, Bobby Cannavale, Lily Collins, Giancarlo Esposito, and Kevin Bacon also have roles in the film.

Goth previously spoke to Variety about MaXXXine, claiming that the film is “going to be the best movie of the three.

“It's the biggest story of the three with the highest stakes and Maxine has gone through so much at this point. So when we find her in this new world, she's just a force to be reckoned with and she goes through some pretty wild adventures.”

The previous entries in the trilogy have been a financial success. Both X and Pearl were made for budgets of $1 million, and made over $15 million and $10 million respectively at the global box office. West and Goth's partnership has also received praise from veteran director Martin Scorsese. According to /Film, Scorsese told A24 that “West and his muse and creative partner Mia Goth really know how to toy with their audience … before they plunge the knife into our chests and start twisting.”

MaXXXine is released in cinemas worldwide on July 5th 2024.
