Deadline has reported that Jonathan Bailey, best known for his roles in Bridgerton and Fellow Travellers, is in early talks to play the lead in the upcoming  film.

Bailey has previously starred in Broadchurch (2013-2017) and Chewing Gum (2015-2017). The Oxfordshire-born actor subsequently garnered attention for starring as the swoon-worthy Anthony Bridgerton in the hit Netflix romance series, which returns next month.

On the big screen, Bailey has played a number of supporting characters in films such as St Trinians (2007) and The Mercy (2017). He is also set to star in the upcoming two-part adaptation of the stage production Wicked. The fantasy musical, which will also be distributed by Universal, stars Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande in the lead roles. Bailey will play Fiyero, the primary love interest.

Other rumoured cast members include Dev Patel, Colman Domingo, and Scarlett Johannson. Johannson has reportedly been in talks to star for a while.

Gareth Edwards, whose previous films include Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (2016) and The Creator (2023), has been brought on by Universal and Amblin Entertainment to direct. David Koepp, writer of Jurassic Park (1993) and its sequel The Lost World: Jurassic Park (1997), is returning to script duties for the new film.

The new instalment, which is currently set for a 2nd July 2025 release, is expected to act as a reboot. Previous stars Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard are not expected to return. The original Jurassic Park cast members (Laura Dern, Sam Neill, and Jeff Goldblum) are also not expected to feature.

The new, currently untitled film is still in the early stages of pre-production. Similarly to its predecessors however, it will be executive produced by Steven Spielberg, through Amblin. He will be joined by Frank Marshall and Patrick Crowley, through Kennedy-Marshall.
