Luca Guadagnino's Challengers has secured the top spot at the UK box office after making £1.5 million across its opening weekend.
The tennis drama—which stars Zendaya, Josh O'Connor, and Mike Faist—opened in over 700 cinemas across the UK. The film's success marks Guadagnino's biggest-ever opening at the UK box office, according to Screen Daily.
StudioCanal's Amy Winehouse biopic, Back to Black, moves down to second place having occupied the top spot for the past two weeks. Sam Taylor-Johnson's film made £1.4 million in its third weekend in cinemas. The film's current UK gross stands at £9 million.
Kung Fu Panda 4 managed to increase its earnings compared to the previous week, remaining in third place with £948,033. The animated comedy has made £19.7 million at the UK box office and over $503 million worldwide.
Alex Garland's Civil War is fourth in its third weekend in cinemas, grossing £755,426. The film's £5.2 million total means that Civil War has now grossed more than Garland's three previous films combined.
Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire rounds off the top five with £597,522. The MonsterVerse entry has made £13.7 million in the UK and over $521 million worldwide. This makes director Adam Wingard's film the second most successful global release of 2024 so far, behind Denis Villeneuve's Dune: Part Two.
Horror film Abigail and the sequel Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire occupy sixth and seventh in the table. They are ahead of Spy X Family Code: White, which made almost £280,729 across its debut weekend. The anime title is ahead of Dune: Part Two, which grossed £253,813 during its ninth week at the UK box office.
Dev Patel's Monkey Man added £124,849, taking it to a total of £2.4 million in the UK and $32.3 million worldwide.
