Netflix has shared a trailer for their third season of Bridgerton, over two years since the previous season was released.
This season will give Penelope Featherington, played by Nicole Coughlan, her turn at courting Regency London while continuing to write as Lady Whistledown. She will face unrequited love, friendship troubles, family disagreements, and scandal as she tries to find her perfect match.
Season two of Bridgerton focused on Simone Ashley as Kate Sharma, and is based on Julia Quinn's novel The Viscount Who Loved Me (2000). Season three will skip the third novel in the series, An Offer from a Gentleman (2001), and instead will follow the story of Julia Quinn's fourth Bridgerton novel Romancing Mister Bridgerton (2002).
Julie Andrews will continue to voice Lady Whistledown. Golda Rosheuvel will also be reprising her role as Queen Charlotte having played her in the first two seasons of Bridgerton and in Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story (2023). Other returning cast members include Adjoa Andoh as Lady Danbury and Simone Ashley as Kate Sharma.
Phoebe Dynevor will not be returning as Daphne Bridgerton, at least not this season. She previously told Variety that “I've done what I wanted to do with that character and she had a great arc. If they ask me back in the future, who knows?”
In July 2022, it was announced that Small Axe‘s Daniel Francis, The Crown‘s Sam Phillips, and Wreck‘s James Phoon would be joining the cast for season three.
Jess Brownell, known for her work on Inventing Anna (2022) and Scandal (2012-2018) will take over as showrunner and writer for this upcoming season, replacing Chris Van Dusen. She is slated to continue in these roles for season four, which has already been announced.
Bridgerton season three releases on Netflix on 16th May 2024.
